Hello McSwain Families!

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our open house. This a reminder that we will have an early release tomorrow, 4/6/23.

Early Release
West Campus will be released at 1:15 pm
East Campus will be released at 1:30 pm

Spring Break
We will be on Spring Break starting Friday, April 7th, to April 16th.
Students will return to school on April 17th.

I hope you are as excited as we are about our “Reading is Fun” week. Our focus next week will be promoting literacy on campus. The week will begin with dress-up days listed below, and our McSwain Library will run its book fair for students to purchase books.


Monday, Safari Attire, wear camo, tan & green to take a wild adventure in the wilderness.

Tuesday, tropical Attire

Wednesday, dress like your favorite fairytale/book character!

Thursday, Pajama Day


On Friday, 3/31/23, your student(s) will be sent home with an envelope with their name on it. You will find our prize structure and your student's pledge form inside. Please take some time to review the form with your child. Sponsors may give a flat donation regardless of the amount of time or number of pages the student reads. Please ensure their name is on the form, and as they collect money, they are filling out their form properly to help the office expedite counting.


Please make all checks made payable to McSwain ASB.


The money raised from this fundraiser will go directly back into your child(s) grade level funds for field trips, R&R rewards, graduation activities, and special projects.


Your child(s) grade-level funds travel with them throughout their time at McSwain.


Thank you to our Read-A-Thon Prize sponsors, McSwain Education Foundation, & McSwain Library. They have generously donated prizes & their time to help make our events successful.

I want to thank our Parent Club and our community vendors for putting on a fantastic event this past Saturday.

There was a tremendous buzz on campus, and It was amazing to see the number of community members that came out to support


Starbucks

As part of our focus on attendance, Ms. Couture (5th grade) earned a class trip to Starbucks for completing our attendance challenge.

We thank Starbucks on Appelgate and Highway 99 for allowing our students to visit and their support! .

For students to be successful, attendance is vital, and we thank our McSwain community for their support in making sure students are on campus every day!

Reading is Fun Week is Coming!
Reading is fun week will be from April 3 -April 6
Reading is fun week is a fundraiser in which students raise funds for their respective classes via a read-a-thon!
Next week, your student will receive a packet of information regarding our event.

Anonymous Reporting Form

As shared in our last community meeting, we have launched an additional tool to keep McSwain safe and supportive for all students. Our anonymous reporting system is on our website.


The anonymous reporting form allows us to follow up on potential issues and investigate.

The form is open to parents, students, staff, and the community.

To submit information, click the icon, and the form will appear.

A vital system component is having accurate information about the parties involved to follow up adequately.

This will help with our commitment to keeping our school and community safe. Thank you for your partnership.

We will have report card conferences next week on March 14th and March 15th and will schedule report card conferences.

For both days, we will be on minimum-day schedules. Students in grades TK-3 (West Campus)will be released at 1:15 pm.

Grades 4-8th (East Campus) will be released at 1:30 pm.

Your child's teachers will send information about conferences and setting up meetings. Please be on the lookout for these communications.

In addition, to report cards, your child will also be given updated information regarding our NWEA benchmark and their scores.

For grades 7-8 only, there will also be a report card night on Wednesday, March 15th. Report card night will be from 4-6 pm in the cafeteria.

With all parent meetings, if you would like to set up an additional appointment with your child's teacher, please reach out to them, and we would be happy to accommodate.

Vendor Fair
We are pleased to announce our upcoming vendor fair Saturday, March 18th!
This event will be open to the public

Community Skate Night
Our Parent Association will host our next skating party this week!
Date: Friday, March 10th, 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm
Admission is 7 dollars which includes skate rentals
This event is open to students and their friends. You will need to check them in.

The Mustang Focus!
As we continue with the school year, we will be taking the time to review our school-wide expectations

In following these processes, we can continue to make sure that Mustang students are leading the way

This week and next, we will focus on Mustangs walking with a focus

This means students will walk alongside their teacher to their destination

Minimize distraction by being at the appropriate noise level and quiet when walking

Safety first, students are not running and walking at the proper speed

SCHOOL BREAKFAST

March is a big month for breakfast! National School Breakfast Week runs March 6-10 and we want to get students excited about eating breakfast at school. This weeklong celebration will give students a nutritious meal to start their school day and include some of their favorites!


PARENTS: Did you know? Your child can DIG into healthy breakfast options at school!!


Studies show that students who eat school breakfast are more likely to:


Reach higher levels of achievement in reading and math

Score higher on standardized tests

Have better concentration and memory

Be more alert

Maintain a healthy weight


We will have a fun week with a raffle each day (one on each campus) for the students who get a school breakfast!

Computer Coding Opportunity
For any girls in grades 6-8 who are interested in computer coding, there will be an informational meeting on Monday, February 27th, at 2:30 pm in Ms. Slater's room.

Band Concert
We have exciting news, McSwain will be participating in the first-ever combined band concert with Buhach High School!
Our musicians have been working very hard with Mr. Garcia and look forward to performing.
The event will showcase our amazing musicians as they play alongside their community partners.

Middle School Dance
It is official, Grades 6,7 and 8 will be having their dance on March 3rd from 2:30- 5:30 pm.
Tickets will be sold on campus before the event, and concessions will be available.

Community Meeting, 3/9/23

Hello, McSwain Parents and Guardians,


I hope you are well. Earlier in the year, our Superintendent shared information regarding the ongoing dangers of Fentanyl. In working with our local law enforcement and hearing from our neighboring schools, our next Coffee with the Principal will focus on the dangers of Fentanyl and narcotics. The meeting will also focus on how parents/community can support our youth as we see Fentanyl becoming more prevalent. The event will be in conjunction with Merced County's Sherrif Department.


The event will be scheduled on March 9th at 3:00 pm. We will be meeting in the West Campus cafeteria.

Hello McSwain Community,

We have just received information regarding a road closure at Gurr Road and Highway 140 from Cal Trans.

Construction is expected to start tomorrow.

This will impact a portion of our pick-up routine. Our drop-off process in the morning will remain the same.


As we assess the situation, we will notify our community and adjust our pick-up procedures as we continue to receive updates.

Please see the pickup and drop-off procedures below.


Drop-Off Reminder

To alleviate bottlenecks in traffic, parents who are coming to drop off their students will need to follow the procedures:

If you have a student in grade TK-3, you will drop them off in the West Campus drop-off zone.

If you have students in grades 4-8, you will drop them off in the East Campus drop-off zone.

Families with students on both campuses will drop them off on the West Campus, and a crossing guard will help walk the older students over to East Campus.


Drop-Off Norms

When pulling into the drop-off zone, please pull all the way forward

Students should exit on the passenger side of the car only

Parents should not leave their vehicle

West Campus drop-off - enter from Hwy 140 onto Scott Road

East Campus drop-off - enter from Vaughn Ave; onto Scott Road





Pick-Up Procedures

Grades TK-3


If your student is in grade TK-3, you will utilize the pickup area on West Campus at 2:15 pm.

Grades TK and K will be positioned at the library gates.

Grades 1, 2, and 3 will be at the front office gate.

If you have siblings on West Campus, they will be picked up at the library gate.

West Campus pickups must come down Vaughn Ave, turn left onto Scott Rd, and then enter the parking lot.



Pick Up Grades 4-8


With the road closure, parents picking up students in grades 4-8 must come down Thornton Rd and come to campus via Wardrobe Ave, then to the open portion of Gurr Rd, make a left onto Vaughn Ave, and enter the pickup line. (See Map Below)

The pickup line will start on Vaughn Ave and then lead to the East Campus parking lot.

The pickup line can enter the parking lot at 2:30 pm.

Parents are to wait in their cars on Vaughn Ave and Scott Rd.


Bus Delays

Due to the construction, busses can be delayed up to 15 minutes daily.
