Coffee with Mr.P!

Our next Coffee with Mr. Pannu will be next week. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss ongoing events here at Mcswain and how we could continue to strengthen the partnership between our school and our students and families. Our next session will be Tuesday, 4/25, at 8:15 am in the West Campus Library.

The focus of our meeting will be on our Library and the love of reading

Our amazing librarians will host this meeting!

Donuts and Coffee will be served.

This is open to all Parents! Spanish Translation will be available.


Spring Library Hours (West Campus)

Starting tomorrow, 4/20/23, and on Thursday moving forward, the West Campus Library will be open for 30 minutes after school

Parents, feel free to bring your students to come and check out books and see what our library has to offer


Spring Music Concert

Join us on April 27th from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm in our East Campus Gym

We will have musical performances from our Band and After School Music students

Come out and show support for our amazing musicians

The event is free!





Day of Awesomeness

We are proud to bring back our Day of Awesomeness with our Parent Teacher Association. The Day of Awesomeness is part of our Step It Up Program and is our last fundraiser for the school year.

Next week your student will be receiving information regarding the event.

The proceeds for the event will help End of Year Student Activities, Field Trips, Classroom Enrichment in addition to new technology, curriculum enhancements, and innovative learning materials.

Hello McSwain Families

As we head into Spring Break, I want to thank all our amazing families for their support in Reading is Fun Week. Here at McSwain, we empower our students, and literacy is key. This week helped showcase our focus on reading, and I want to thank all our students, staff, and families for making this a fantastic week! We were able to raise over eighteen thousand dollars that can be used for field trips, R&R rewards, graduation activities, and special projects.

Modern Warriors

Over the past few weeks, our Tk-3rd grade students have worked with a local community group called the Modern Warriors.

Modern Warriors focus on self-discipline and physical activity.

Teacher Appreciation Week

This year, teacher appreciation week will be from May 8th- May 12th

In celebrating our fantastic staff, our parent-teacher club will be hosting a luncheon

As part of this luncheon, they are looking for desserts to be donated

If you are interested in donating a dessert, please fill out this survey

The parent club will be following up with you grading additional details before the teacher appreciation luncheon.


Survey Reminder

Families play an essential role in the school success of children. You can get involved and support your children’s learning in many ways. Whether you attend our Parent Teacher Club meetings, are a member of our McSwain foundation, volunteer in your child’s classroom, help with the book fair, or just read with your child at home each night, you are making a contribution that will help your child do well in school.


Family engagement is strong here at McSwain. As we continue to build and strengthen our relationships, we want to make sure that we hear directly from our stakeholders,


You can help us form a better partnership between school and home by answering the questions on the attached survey. This survey is entirely online, and the responses will help us gather feedback from our families. Please complete this survey by April 16th.


Spring Break

We are on Spring Break starting Friday, April 7th, to April 16th.

Our staff is making sure they are taking the time to rest so they are ready to be with your students post-break and finish the school year strong.

Students will return to school on April 17th.

Early Release
West Campus will be released at 1:15 pm
East Campus will be released at 1:30 pm

Spring Break
We will be on Spring Break starting Friday, April 7th, to April 16th.
Students will return to school on April 17th.

I hope you are as excited as we are about our “Reading is Fun” week. Our focus next week will be promoting literacy on campus. The week will begin with dress-up days listed below, and our McSwain Library will run its book fair for students to purchase books.


Monday, Safari Attire, wear camo, tan & green to take a wild adventure in the wilderness.

Tuesday, tropical Attire

Wednesday, dress like your favorite fairytale/book character!

Thursday, Pajama Day


On Friday, 3/31/23, your student(s) will be sent home with an envelope with their name on it. You will find our prize structure and your student's pledge form inside. Please take some time to review the form with your child. Sponsors may give a flat donation regardless of the amount of time or number of pages the student reads. Please ensure their name is on the form, and as they collect money, they are filling out their form properly to help the office expedite counting.


Please make all checks made payable to McSwain ASB.


The money raised from this fundraiser will go directly back into your child(s) grade level funds for field trips, R&R rewards, graduation activities, and special projects.


Your child(s) grade-level funds travel with them throughout their time at McSwain.

I want to thank our Parent Club and our community vendors for putting on a fantastic event this past Saturday.

There was a tremendous buzz on campus, and It was amazing to see the number of community members that came out to support


Starbucks

As part of our focus on attendance, Ms. Couture (5th grade) earned a class trip to Starbucks for completing our attendance challenge.

We thank Starbucks on Appelgate and Highway 99 for allowing our students to visit and their support! .

For students to be successful, attendance is vital, and we thank our McSwain community for their support in making sure students are on campus every day!

Anonymous Reporting Form

As shared in our last community meeting, we have launched an additional tool to keep McSwain safe and supportive for all students. Our anonymous reporting system is on our website.


The anonymous reporting form allows us to follow up on potential issues and investigate.

The form is open to parents, students, staff, and the community.

To submit information, click the icon, and the form will appear.

A vital system component is having accurate information about the parties involved to follow up adequately.

This will help with our commitment to keeping our school and community safe. Thank you for your partnership.

For both days, we will be on minimum-day schedules. Students in grades TK-3 (West Campus)will be released at 1:15 pm.

Grades 4-8th (East Campus) will be released at 1:30 pm.

Your child's teachers will send information about conferences and setting up meetings. Please be on the lookout for these communications.

In addition, to report cards, your child will also be given updated information regarding our NWEA benchmark and their scores.

For grades 7-8 only, there will also be a report card night on Wednesday, March 15th. Report card night will be from 4-6 pm in the cafeteria.

Vendor Fair
We are pleased to announce our upcoming vendor fair Saturday, March 18th!

Community Skate Night
Our Parent Association will host our next skating party this week!
Date: Friday, March 10th, 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm
Admission is 7 dollars which includes skate rentals
This event is open to students and their friends. You will need to check them in.

The Mustang Focus!
As we continue with the school year, we will be taking the time to review our school-wide expectations

In following these processes, we can continue to make sure that Mustang students are leading the way

This week and next, we will focus on Mustangs walking with a focus

This means students will walk alongside their teacher to their destination

Minimize distraction by being at the appropriate noise level and quiet when walking

Safety first, students are not running and walking at the proper speed

SCHOOL BREAKFAST

March is a big month for breakfast! National School Breakfast Week runs March 6-10 and we want to get students excited about eating breakfast at school. This weeklong celebration will give students a nutritious meal to start their school day and include some of their favorites!


PARENTS: Did you know? Your child can DIG into healthy breakfast options at school!!


Studies show that students who eat school breakfast are more likely to:


Reach higher levels of achievement in reading and math

Score higher on standardized tests

Have better concentration and memory

Be more alert

Maintain a healthy weight


We will have a fun week with a raffle each day (one on each campus) for the students who get a school breakfast!

Computer Coding Opportunity
For any girls in grades 6-8 who are interested in computer coding, there will be an informational meeting on Monday, February 27th, at 2:30 pm in Ms. Slater's room.

Band Concert
We have exciting news, McSwain will be participating in the first-ever combined band concert with Buhach High School!
Our musicians have been working very hard with Mr. Garcia and look forward to performing.
The event will showcase our amazing musicians as they play alongside their community partners.

Middle School Dance
It is official, Grades 6,7 and 8 will be having their dance on March 3rd from 2:30- 5:30 pm.
Tickets will be sold on campus before the event, and concessions will be available.
