Dear Parents,


On behalf of the McSwain Parent Club, I am SO excited to invite you to participate in our Next Level Program! We need your help to raise money for Field Trips, Student Activities, and Classroom Enrichment.


Click on the link to set up your child’s personal donation page and invite friends and family by email or text to join our efforts. This entire process can be completed in 10 minutes or less! When you enter 10 or more email addresses or cell phone numbers of your friends and family via your personal donation page, your child will earn Golden Ticket Prizes starting Monday!

Spring Break

As we all rest, this is a reminder that students and staff will return to school on Monday, April 8th, 2024.


Dress Code Reminder


As we head into the warmer time of the year, please take a moment to review our dress code expectations.

Appropriate dress and good grooming contribute to a positive atmosphere and promote student safety. Students should dress in a manner that is age-appropriate and acceptable.

Any dress, grooming or appearance which disrupts or tends to disrupt the educational process or affect the health or safety of individuals will be prohibited (EC 48900, EC35183, EC 35294.1).

Pants/shorts will be worn at the waist level without the need to use a belt.

All belts must be worn through the loops.

Backless, halter, strapless, low-cut necklines, bare midriff tops, spaghetti straps, crop tops, and tube tops may not be worn. Straps must be at least ½ inch wide.

All undergarments must be covered, including bralettes.

Holes/rips/fraying in pants, shorts or skirts may be no higher than fingertip length.

If arms are held at the sides and straight down, the shorts, dress or skirt bottom should match the students longest fingertip.

Students will be required to change if their shorts, skirts or dresses are of an inappropriate length.

Leggings are ok to be worn under shorts or jeans with holes/rips higher than fingertip length.

Footwear must be worn at all times. Students must have appropriate footwear for PE. Failure to do so will result in non-participation and will impact the student’s grade in PE. Elementary students are encouraged to wear closed-toe shoes.

Students cannot wear heelys shoes.

Hats, hoods and sunglasses must be taken off when indoors.

Clothing, accessories or jewelry with inappropriate language, pictures, inferences, or symbols which tend to mock, ridicule, provoke, demean, or display words or pictures associated with alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, sex, drugs may not be worn at school.

Lettering and printing will be allowed on garments as long as it is not crude,vulgar, and does not contain profanity or make reference to tobacco, drugs, alcohol, violence, gangs, weapons or is sexually suggestive, and is not a racial slur or epithet.

Accessories that may cause injury such as, but not limited to, spiked jewelry, studded collars, safety pins, chains or long belts will not be allowed.

Any attire/paraphernalia/symbol that signifies gang affiliation will not be allowed on campus. Any attire/ paraphernalia/symbol that displays a logo or other message promoting alcohol or controlled substances, promoting violence, illegal activity or relating to gangs may not be worn on campus.


The final school-level decisions as to the suitability of dress and grooming rest with the administration.


Reminder: Lost and Found Items

Please take a look at the items we lost and found on both the East and West Campuses.

When we return from break, any uncollected items will be donated on Friday, April 12th







Weather Reminder

As the temperature continues to be warmer for this time of the year. Please send your child with a refillable water bottle. We have water stations on campus and want to make sure your child stays hydrated.

Spring Break

As we head into the Spring Break on behalf of the staff here at McSwain, we wish you and your students a safe and restful break. Our amazing staff is also spending time with their families and getting recharged. As we all take time to rest, this is a reminder that students and staff will return to school on Monday, April 8th, 2024. Reminder: there is no school tomorrow, March 29th.

Your enthusiasm, support, and participation brought these initiatives to life, creating unforgettable experiences for our students. Seeing everyone come together to celebrate the joy of reading was truly special. Your involvement—from attending events to sharing stories—played a crucial role in sparking a lifelong love of reading in our students' hearts.

We are deeply grateful for your contributions and look forward to more wonderful events in the future. Together, we've started something amazing.

Report Card Week!

We will have report card week from March 12-14th


Please note the schedules below.

March 12th- March 14th

Tuesday- Thursday

West Campus will be released at 1:00 pm

East Campus will be released at 1:50 pm


Your child's teachers will send information about conferences and setting up meetings. Please be on the lookout for these communications.

In addition to report cards, your child will be given information regarding their NWEA benchmark test when applicable.

With all parent meetings, if you would like to set up an additional appointment with your child's teacher, please reach out to them, and we would be happy to accommodate.

VEGETABLE OF THE MONTH……..SNAP PEAS!!!!










Our vegetable to Salute this month is Snap Peas!


The snap pea, also known as the sugar snap pea, is an edible pod pea with rounded pods and thick pod walls, in contrast to snow pea pods, which are flat with thin walls. Snap peas are bright green and typically harvested when the peas inside the pod are small and sweet.


Check out these fun facts that may even make you want to eat this vegetable more.


Sugar snap peas took the vegetable world by storm in the spring of 1979, hailed as the greatest new vegetable on the market! U.S. plant breeder Calvin Lamborn developed the “sugar snap” pea variety by crossing garden peas with especially thick walls with snow peas and ta-da!! Sugar snap peas were born!!


Like beans, sugar snap peas can be grown as a bush or a vine. Commercial farmers changed the way snap peas were initially grown on a vine to more bush-like so that the plants would be smaller, easier to maintain, and harvest all at once.


Snap peas are considered a fruit, though most people consider them vegetables. The whole pod can be eaten, and they have a crunchy texture and very sweet flavor. They may be eaten raw or cooked. There are 3-8 peas in each pod.


So what’s so good about them? Snap peas are high in fiber and rich in vitamin C, which is great for building the immune system. They’re also a good source of B vitamins and folic acid, which helps to break down protein, carbohydrates, and fat into energy. They're also packed with iron, manganese, and Vitamins A and K.


Let’s give them a try this month. You can eat them whole or in a salad, stir-fried or steamed. Open them up and see what’s inside!


Parking Tips and Tricks Reminder


Arrive early for drop-off. Students are allowed to enter campus by 7:30 am

If you arrive late or close to the start of school, you will be in traffic.

Follow the designated routes. If you do not, our procedure will be negatively impacted, and you will be in more traffic.

For pick-up, please make sure to show up at the correct time.

For West Campus pick-up, once you have picked up your student, please exit the parking lot to allow for traffic to move.

A tip for pick-up on the East campus is that If you are running late in the afternoon, students are under the supervision of an adult. Coming after the original wave of traffic will also help expedite pick-up.

Mark your calendars, the Literati Book Fair will be here Thursday, March 7th- Friday,15th from 7:30 AM-2:30 PM in the East Campus Library!

Please note that the Book Fair will end at noon on the last day, Friday, March 15th. We hope to see our East campus 4th- 8th-grade families there! There will be so many books to choose from for every reader.

Don't forget, we will be open LATE on Thursday, March 7th, from 5:00-700 PM during CAMP READ night!

Reading is fun week will be from March 4th -March 8th
Reading is fun week is a fundraiser in which students raise funds for their respective classes via a read-a-thon!
Your student will receive a packet of information regarding our event this Friday, March 1st. Please review this information.
To make the event more exciting, we will have dress-up days presented by our leadership class coinciding with our week. Please see below.

Camp Read

Come be a part of our inaugural Camp Read happening on March 7th!
This evening affair promises a lineup of captivating activities like reading circles, exclusive meet-and-greets with guest authors, dynamic literacy booths, and gourmet bites from local food trucks. See the flyer below for more details!

Fresno Grizzlies Partnership


We're thrilled to share the news of our collaboration with the Fresno Grizzlies! Every student will receive a special bookmark designed to monitor their reading achievements. Those who meet their reading targets will be rewarded with two complimentary tickets to a future game of the Fresno Grizzlies.


Students who participate and read ten books in 5 weeks receive two free tickets to a select “Wild About Reading” Grizzlies game in 2024 (dates listed below).


Students log their reading progress using the bookmark on one side of the double sheet (directions can be found next to the bookmark).


They will have to read 10 books in 5 weeks to receive their two free tickets (which is the voucher on the other side of the bookmark).

Admission is $7 dollars, which includes skate rentals

This event is open to students and their families. As long as there is a McSwain student present, your group can go in!

Attendance Policies

An essential aspect of our educational program revolves around student attendance. In order to offer our students the highest quality educational experience, they must be present at school and arrive punctually.
Consistent attendance is pivotal to a student's academic progress, social and emotional growth, and overall success.


We kindly request that students not be withdrawn from school without valid reasons.


We do understand that there may be occasions when a student needs to be absent. If such circumstances arise, we request that you please notify the school office.



Technology Tip

We wanted to send a reminder about Chromebook care. In working with our library technicians, we want to ensure Mustangs handle their Chromebooks with care.
Broken Screens do occur but can be easily avoided with correct handling.


Common mishandlings:

Dropping the device on a hard surface without it being in a zippered case

Closing the lid with an object on the keyboard (i.e., paper clip, pencil, pen, etc.)

Stepping on the Chromebook with or without a case

Throwing the Chromebook with or without a case

Horseplay results in a Chromebook being knocked off a desk or used as a weapon.


Screen Repair Costs: $50.00


Please continue to be careful with your Chromebooks and their handling.

As students receive their Chromebooks, they review procedures alongside their teachers and librarians. Feel free to use this Chromebook slide deck to check with your child at home.
