Hello McSwain Families,
October 19–23 is National School Bus Safety Week, an opportunity to reinforce safe bus riding habits and recognize the transportation professionals who help our students travel safely to and from school.

This week, our Maintenance, Operations, and Transportation (MOT) Department will review bus safety procedures with students, including how to safely board, ride, and exit a school bus.
Please take a few moments to review the following bus riding reminders with your student. Thank you for partnering with us to keep every student’s journey safe and positive.
Transportation Safety Policies and Expectations
-
Arrive early: Be at the bus stop at least 10 minutes before the scheduled pickup time.
-
Wait safely: Stand back from the curb or roadway. Avoid pushing or crowding.
-
Follow directions: Listen to and follow the driver’s instructions.
-
Stay seated: Remain seated while the bus is moving and keep aisles clear. Change seats only when directed by the driver.
-
Use quiet voices: Loud noises can distract the driver.
-
Keep objects inside: Do not throw objects inside the bus or out the windows.
-
Keep the bus clean: Food, drinks, and littering are not permitted.
-
Show respect: Be courteous to the driver and other students, and use appropriate language.
Bus Rules and Consequences
-
Students who violate bus rules may receive a bus referral, which can result in a warning or suspension of transportation privileges.
-
A bus suspension includes all school activities requiring bus transportation during the suspension period.
-
Students in TK–2 must have an adult clearly visible at drop-off. If no adult is present, the student will be returned to school.
-
Three or more “no receiver” instances—when an adult is not present at drop-off—may result in suspension of bus privileges.
-
Students who damage bus property will be responsible for repair costs.
-
Repeated refusal to follow bus rules may result in the loss of transportation services.
Thank you to our MOT team for their continued dedication to student safety, and thank you to our families for reinforcing these expectations at home.
Best,
Mr. Pannu
Superintendent
