CEI Committee Work: Year 2 Strengthening Relationships, Expanding Engagement, and Empowering Student Voice

Hello McSwain Community,

I hope you are doing well. I am reaching out to share an update regarding an ongoing initiative here at McSwain.

Last year, McSwain was one of only 55 schools selected to participate in Cohort VI of California’s Community Engagement Initiative (CEI). Through this process, a collaborative team of teachers, administrators, parents, students, community partners, county representatives, and District staff works together to identify opportunities to make McSwain the best school possible.

Our team identified the following Problem of Practice:

Fostering inclusive relationships among:

  • Students

  • Staff

  • Families

  • The broader community

By the end of 2027, our goals are to:

  • Increase overall stakeholder involvement

  • Implement two student-led initiatives with fidelity

  • Establish baseline data regarding staff engagement and support

Our target engagement outcomes are:

  • Students: 100%

  • Staff: 90%

  • Parents: 50%

  • Community: Establish baseline participation data

As we begin the second year of this process, I would like to recognize the teachers and staff members who serve on the CEI team, along with our administrative team, parent volunteers, Merced County Office of Education representatives, community partners, and District Office staff. Their time, collaboration, and commitment continue to move this important work forward.

I am pleased to share that several of our initiatives are already beginning to take shape. We are gradually launching new student clubs on campus, and although this effort is still in its early stages, we are excited about the opportunities it will provide for our students. We have also established a Kindness Council, and our administration is working alongside students to create additional meaningful leadership opportunities across our campus.

As the school year continues, the CEI team will meet regularly to evaluate our focus, gather baseline engagement data, and share our progress with staff, families, and the broader McSwain community.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this important work and for continuing to help make McSwain the best school possible.

Best,

Mr. Pannu
Superintendent
