Attendance Update

A key component of our educational program is student attendance. To provide your students with the highest quality educational programming, students must be present at school and on time.

If a student is not consistently at school, the impact is on their academic performance, social and emotional development, and overall success. Do not pull your student from school without reason.

We do recognize that a student may be absent. Please take a look at the list of excusable absences.

The State Department of Education recognizes the following as excused absences:

  • Personal illness/injury (the school requires a doctor's excuse for more than two consecutive days)

  • Quarantine Medical, dental, optometry, or chiropractic services rendered

  • Attendance at the funeral of immediate family (one day in the state, three days out of state). Exclusion for failure to present evidence of immunization (up to 5 days)

  • Exclusion from school for contagious disease

  • Absent students have the responsibility of getting and finishing homework.

  • It is the student's responsibility to approach the teacher and request missing assignments. Students have one (1) day to make up homework for every excused absence day.

Independent Study

  • When an absence for any reason of three or more consecutive school days is anticipated, parents may request an independent study contract. The earlier we can receive this notice, the better.

  • Students are accounted for as though they are actually in attendance. This is more than a homework request; it is a day-to-day equivalency for actual school attendance, allowing parents to monitor student work and ensure all assignments are turned in on the return day.

Student expectations for Independent Study

  • Students are REQUIRED to meet all academic expectations and requirements.

  • All work assigned for each day is REQUIRED to be completed.

  • The independent study contract will be void if students cannot complete their assigned work.

  • Independent study contracts must be returned on the student's first day back to school.

  • For any missing assessments, such as quizzes and tests and any missing assignments, it is the teacher's discretion on when and how those need to be made up or if they are excused.
